Northeastern University addresses matriculation and retention issues by enhancing and implementing new programs under the Urban Institute of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Programs. Initiatives supported by LSAMP focus on preparing traditionally under-represented students from urban communities helping them advance from pre-college to graduate school. LSAMP will have a direct impact on student advancement in the form of research opportunities, pre-college academic preparation and graduate school support.
The Northeastern University LSAMP is a member of the Northeast Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (NE-LSAMP) progam. This regional alliance is comprised of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Northeastern University, University of Connecticut, University of Rhode Island, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

"Talent runs deep in America, but we haven't as yet learned to take full advantage of your rich human resources. It is vital to invest in minorities... Developing the largely untapped potential of this population reflects the high priority of people in NSF's mission."
